Plumber East Maitland

East Maitland is just across Wallis Creek from our base, close enough that a dripping tap and a cracked clay drain can both be looked at the same morning. Ring with the job and the quote is on us.

Working in East Maitland

Your local plumber in East Maitland 2323

In East Maitland the age of the street tells us half the story before we knock: roots in clay pipes near the gaol, worn-out cartridges in the estates.

East Maitland sits on the rise across Wallis Creek from Maitland, around the old Maitland Gaol and the Green Hills shopping centre. The streets near the gaol and along the old highway have some of the area's oldest homes, many still on their original clay sewer lines, which crack at the joints and let jacaranda and fig roots in. Further out, through Ashtonfield and Metford toward Thornton, the estates are newer, with PVC drains and modern fittings, and the calls there are about dripping mixers, cisterns that won't stop filling and the first hot water system reaching the end of its life. Hunter Water looks after the sewer main in the street, while the pipe from your house to where it joins that main belongs to the owner, and that's the stretch we clear, film and reline. In the oldest places a bathroom or laundry was often added at the back decades after the house went up, so clay, cast iron and PVC can all turn up under the one yard.

What we do here

Plumbing work around East Maitland

  • Heritage homes near the old gaol

Clearing root-blocked clay sewer lines, camera inspections and relining, so a heritage garden doesn't have to be dug up to fix a drain. The camera finds which joints have let the roots in, so only those lengths get relined.

    Blocked Drains →
  • Estates toward Ashtonfield

Hot water systems coming up to ten years old, and the shower mixers and cisterns that tend to wear out around the same time. A like-for-like replacement goes on the same spot, so the existing pipes and power line up and the job is usually done in a morning.

    Hot Water Systems →
  • Cafes and shops around Green Hills

Grease arrestor connections, hand basins and hot water for food businesses, booked before they open for the day. We also leave the details your trade waste inspection asks for: what was fitted, its size and when it was last serviced.

Questions

East Maitland: common questions

Why do older East Maitland homes get blocked drains so often?

Many still have their original clay sewer pipes, laid in short lengths with a joint every metre or so. Roots from established trees get into those joints looking for water. Jetting clears them, and a camera shows whether the pipe needs relining so it stops happening.

Can you reline a drain without digging up the garden?

Usually, yes. Pipe relining puts a new resin lining inside the old pipe, through an existing opening, so the garden, driveway or heritage paving above stays where it is. The camera inspection tells us whether relining suits your pipe. A pipe that has collapsed or sagged badly still has to be dug and replaced, but often only for that one section, with the rest relined.

My hot water system is ten years old. Should I replace it before it fails?

If it's showing signs, like water that's only warm, rust at the base or a dripping relief valve, it's worth planning a replacement rather than waiting for a cold morning. If it's working fine, we can check the anode and valves so you know how long it's likely to last. In the estates many homes were finished in the same few years, so if the house next door has just replaced its system, yours is probably close behind.

Can you connect a grease arrestor for a cafe near Green Hills?

Yes. A food business sending greasy water to the sewer generally needs a grease arrestor and a trade waste approval from Hunter Water. We install or replace the arrestor and connect the sinks and dishwasher to it, working before opening so you don't lose a day's trade.

Can you fix the old taps in a heritage East Maitland home without replacing them?

Usually. Old jumper-valve taps drip because the washer or the seat inside has worn, and both can be replaced while the tap body stays. If a tap is past saving, reproduction tapware in the same style fits most old basins and baths.

Do you take small jobs in Metford and Thornton?

Small jobs are most of what we do out there. Save up the dripping taps, the running toilet and the garden tap that won't shut off, and we'll do the lot in one visit at one price. Thornton is a few minutes past East Maitland for us, and the quote costs nothing.
